Obama Tweet: How a new generation gets their information is a video that explores the (new) mediated distribution of President Barack Obama's online identity. The video, shot in high definition, is a scene set up in my living room. In the backdrop, the President’s “Address to the Nation,” plays on a television set. In the foreground is my MacbookPro, which is open to Obama’s speech broadcasted live on http://www.cnn.com, accompanied by a live-feed of Facebook users responding to the President’s speech in realtime. Next to this on the computer screen, is an application called Tweetdeck (which is a Twitter application that allows users to communicate globally through 140-character messages called tweets) featuring a live-feed of users also commenting on Obama’s speech.

I uploaded the video to YouTube with the performative title Obama Tweet: How a new generation gets their information and wrote: “This is raw footage that I shot last night during Obama’s Address to the Nation. click ‘watch in high quality’- I really want you to be able to read the updates”. I used the term “Really” to suggest my generation, my age, and my naiveté. I also uploaded video stills to my blog on the President’s website http://my.barackobama.com, accompanied by the same descriptive text. The title of the video, the word “really”, the low budget room decor and high end technology established the producer of this video (myself) as a young person.
